Ectoin Bulk Price: How Buyers Should Compare Quotes, MOQ and Effective Cost

Quick Answer
There is no single reliable “Ectoin market price” that a professional buyer can take from a public marketplace page.
Current public listings for Ectoin / Ectoine show very wide price ranges even when the headline purity looks similar. On Alibaba, current 99% listings reviewed on 19 September 2026 include examples around US$50-149/kg at 1 kg MOQ, while other 98% and 99% listings sit well above or below those bands.[1][2] Made-in-China also shows supplier listings around roughly US$55-70/kg, US$100-120/kg and US$200-300/kg depending on the offer.[4]
That does not mean the Ectoin market is irrational. It means the visible number is often missing the variables that make two quotes comparable.
For procurement, use this sequence:
- Exact identity and grade
- assay / purity definition
- price unit
- quantity tier
- MOQ and total order value
- packaging
- Incoterm
- freight / insurance / brokerage
- documentation and testing
- payment terms
- lead time
- active-adjusted cost
- landed effective cost A marketplace price is a sourcing signal.
A normalized supplier quote is a purchasing decision.
Why Ectoin Price per Kilogram Can Be Misleading
“US$80/kg Ectoin” looks like a complete price.
It is not.
Before you compare that number with another supplier, you need to know:
- Is the material actually Ectoin / Ectoine, CAS 96702-03-3?
- Is the quoted grade 98%, 99% or another specification?
- What does the percentage mean analytically?
- Is the price for 100 g, 1 kg, 10 kg, 25 kg or 100 kg?
- Is there a separate production MOQ?
- Is the package a foil bag, inner-lined drum or another format?
- Is the quote EXW, FOB, CIF, DAP or another commercial basis?
- Is freight included?
- Are the batch COA and required qualification documents included?
- Does the price apply to a sample, a trial order or a production order?
- How long is the quote valid?
If those fields differ, price/kg alone is not a like-for-like comparison.
Current Public Ectoin Price Snapshot
The following are dated public listing observations reviewed on 19 September 2026. They are not verified transaction prices and should not be used as a permanent market average.
| Public source | Displayed observation | Why it cannot stand alone |
|---|---|---|
| Alibaba Ectoine price page | Several 99% listings at 1 kg MOQ: roughly US$50–149/kg | The same search environment contains materially lower and higher prices.[1] |
| Alibaba Ectoine showroom | 98% examples at roughly US$72.32–135/kg; 99% examples around US$168.33–500/kg; a fermented 99% listing around US$655–720/kg | Grade, quantity tier, supplier and documentation context differ.[2] |
| Made-in-China | Examples around US$55–70/kg, US$100–120/kg and US$200–300/kg | Supplier, certification and product context differ.[4] |
A ChemicalBook listing updated 17 September 2026 shows a 99% HPLC Ectoin offer with a displayed RMB 540 price at a 1 kg tier and RMB 330 at a 100 kg tier, while the same page states a minimum order of 25 kg.[5]
That is exactly why a buyer should not ask:
“What is the Ectoin price?” The more useful question is:
“What is the effective cost of this exact qualified Ectoin offer at my required order quantity and delivery basis?”
Why There Is No Single Ectoin Market Price
A public Ectoin listing can represent different things:
- a small sample or trial pack
- a 1 kg R&D order
- a larger production quantity
- an advertised starting price
- a promotional price
- a price tier that requires a larger MOQ
- a product with a different assay definition
- a different documentation package
- an EXW goods-only price
- a quote that includes more logistics or service
A price range without the commercial basis is incomplete data. This is also why Ingredexa does not calculate one “average Ectoin price” from mixed marketplace listings. A mathematical average of non-comparable offers can look precise while being commercially meaningless.
Step 1: Match the Exact Product and Grade
Normalize identity before price.
For Ectoin sourcing, record at least:
Product name: Ectoin / Ectoine
CAS: 96702-03-3
Supplier product code
Commercial grade
Stated assay / purity
Analytical basis
Actual batch result when available
the Ectoin 98% vs 99% guide covers the technical question of 98% vs 99% grade selection. the Ectoin COA guide covers how to read the COA and distinguish HPLC area purity, assay and dried-basis results. For price comparison, those technical fields become economic inputs. If Supplier A quotes “98% assay” and Supplier B quotes “99% HPLC area purity,” do not immediately calculate a purity premium.
First determine whether the two percentages are analytically comparable.
Step 2: Define the Price Unit and Quantity Tier
Every quote should identify:
Currency
Price per unit
Quantity tier
MOQ
Total order quantity
Total goods value
Do not mix:
US$/kg
US$/100 g
US$/bag
RMB/kg
price per drum
without converting them to the same unit. Also distinguish the displayed price tier from the actual MOQ. A supplier may advertise a 100 kg price while requiring a 25 kg minimum order. Another may quote a 1 kg trial price but offer a very different production price.
Store both fields:
Price tier
Production MOQ
They are not the same thing.
Step 3: Normalize for Assay / Active Content
When the analytical basis is comparable, you can calculate an active-adjusted raw-material cost.
Active kg in shipment
= purchased kg × assay fraction
Active-adjusted material cost
= goods cost ÷ active kg
Example:
If 1 kg of 98% Ectoin costs US$100:
Active content
= 1 × 0.98
= 0.98 kg
Active-adjusted cost
= 100 ÷ 0.98
≈ US$102.04 per stated active kg
If 1 kg of 99% Ectoin also costs US$100:
Active content
= 0.99 kg
Active-adjusted cost
= 100 ÷ 0.99
≈ US$101.01 per stated active kg
The purity-only difference is about 1.02%. That is useful perspective. If one supplier is US$100/kg and another is US$150/kg, a one-percentage-point purity difference does not explain the entire price gap. The buyer still needs to investigate grade definition, impurity control, production route, documentation, supplier qualification and commercial terms.
When Should You Not Use Active-Cost Normalization?
Do not apply the formula mechanically when:
- the assay definitions are different
- one value is HPLC area purity and the other is quantitative assay
- one result is dried-basis and the other is as-is
- one product is a carrier-based or formulated delivery system
- the products have materially different specification packages
- one quote includes services or logistics the other does not
The formula is useful only after the products are technically comparable.
Step 4: Compare MOQ and Total Order Cash
A lower price per kilogram can require much more cash.
Suppose:
Supplier A
US$90/kg
MOQ 1 kg
Supplier B
US$70/kg
MOQ 25 kg
Supplier B has the lower displayed unit price.
But the minimum goods outlay is:
Supplier A
US$90
Supplier B
US$1,750
That difference affects:
- working capital
- inventory risk
- storage
- shelf-life / retest exposure
- demand uncertainty
- cash conversion cycle
For an R&D program or a new product launch, the higher unit price may still create the lower total project risk. For a stable production program, the larger tier may be economically attractive.
Record both:
Normalized unit price
Minimum order cash requirement
Do not hide the second number.
Step 5: Check Packaging
Packaging affects both direct cost and operational fit.
Ask:
- How many kilograms per inner bag?
- How many bags per drum?
- Is the drum included in the quoted price?
- Is moisture-protective packaging used?
- Is the sample package the same material and grade as production stock?
- Does repacking create additional lead time or fees?
A 25 kg drum may be efficient for production but inconvenient for a small formulation program. A 1 kg foil bag may be easy to qualify but expensive per kilogram. Package size belongs in the quote sheet, not in a separate forgotten email.
Step 6: Put Quotes on the Same Incoterm Basis
A goods price cannot be compared correctly if the delivery terms are different. ICC Incoterms® 2020 defines different delivery, cost and risk responsibilities for terms such as EXW, FCA, FOB, CIF and delivered terms.[6][7][8] For example, under EXW, the buyer takes on substantial transport and export-side responsibility from the named place.[7] Under FOB, the seller’s delivery obligation reaches the point where the goods are placed on board the nominated vessel at the named port; risk then transfers under the rule.[8]
That means:
US$80/kg EXW
is not automatically cheaper than:
US$90/kg FOB
The missing freight, handling, export and logistics costs may reverse the comparison.
For each quote, record:
Incoterm
Named place or port
International freight
Insurance if applicable
Customs brokerage
Duty / tax treatment where applicable
Final local delivery
Do not invent these numbers. Get actual logistics inputs for the route and order size.
Step 7: Add Documentation and Testing Costs
A technically acceptable supplier offer may require more than the powder itself.
Depending on the project, cost can include:
- sample shipment
- lot-specific COA
- TDS and SDS review
- production-route / origin statement
- residual-solvent information
- microbiology
- elemental / heavy-metal data
- third-party identity or assay testing
- pre-shipment inspection
- supplier audit or quality review
Not every project needs every item. But if Supplier A includes the required package and Supplier B requires extra testing or document work, the nominal price/kg comparison is incomplete. the Ectoin COA guide explains how to evaluate the Ectoin COA itself. the Ectoin bulk-price guide converts the qualification burden into part of the sourcing decision.
Step 8: Check Quote Validity, Payment Terms and Lead Time
Two technically comparable offers can still have different commercial risk.
Record:
Quote date
Quote validity
Payment terms
Deposit requirement
Balance timing
Lead time
Stock status
Production lead time
Sample lead time
Shipping lead time
Currency
A quote that expires in three days is not the same commercial offer as one held for thirty days. A 100% prepayment term is not the same working-capital profile as a staged payment. A six-week lead time is not equivalent to immediate stock if your production schedule is tight.
Marketplace Display Price vs Supplier RFQ
Alibaba’s buyer workflow explicitly supports Requests for Quotation and one-to-one supplier communication, including price negotiation.[9] That is an important procurement distinction. A public listing helps you discover suppliers and establish a rough sourcing range. A controlled RFQ creates comparable offers.
For a serious Ectoin comparison, send the same technical and commercial request to each supplier.
Do not ask one supplier for:
“Best price?”
and another for:
“99% Ectoin, 25 kg, FOB Shanghai, lot COA, TDS, SDS and current lead time.” Those are different RFQs. The resulting numbers are not comparable.
Ectoin Quote Comparison Sheet
Use one row per supplier. This template is more useful than a simple “Supplier / Price / MOQ” comparison.
| Comparison field | Supplier A | Supplier B |
|---|---|---|
| Product identity | Product code, CAS and grade | Product code, CAS and grade |
| Analytical basis | Assay / purity specification and actual lot result | Assay / purity specification and actual lot result |
| Commercial basis | Price, currency, unit, quantity tier and MOQ | Price, currency, unit, quantity tier and MOQ |
| Cash and logistics | Minimum goods outlay, package, Incoterm, named place, freight, insurance and brokerage | Minimum goods outlay, package, Incoterm, named place, freight, insurance and brokerage |
| Documentation and risk | Included documents, added testing, sample cost and unresolved questions | Included documents, added testing, sample cost and unresolved questions |
| Timing and payment | Payment terms, lead time and quote validity | Payment terms, lead time and quote validity |
| Normalized cost | Active-adjusted material cost and estimated landed cost | Active-adjusted material cost and estimated landed cost |
Worked Illustrative Quote Comparison
The following example is purely illustrative. It is not a live supplier quote.
| Offer | Grade | Nominal price | MOQ | Active-adjusted material cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | 98% Ectoin | US$80/kg | 1 kg | US$80 ÷ 0.98 = about US$81.63 per stated active kg |
| B | 99% Ectoin | US$84/kg | 1 kg | US$84 ÷ 0.99 = about US$84.85 per stated active kg |
This illustrative comparison assumes a comparable assay basis and the same delivery basis. In this simplified example, the 98% offer remains cheaper after active-content normalization. That does not make it the better supplier. You still need to compare impurity control, COA, documentation, consistency, lead time and total landed cost. The calculation answers one question only:
Does the higher headline purity offset the higher nominal price?
That is why price comparison belongs after technical definition, not before it.

Ectoin Price Comparison Red Flags
Investigate further when you see:
- a very low price with no clear grade definition
- a price range with no quantity tiers
- MOQ missing or inconsistent across the page
- “99%” with no analytical basis
- a 1 kg display price that cannot actually be ordered at 1 kg
- a 100 kg tier shown as though it applies to a trial order
- EXW and FOB quotes compared as if they were equivalent
- freight described as “included” with no destination
- public listing price treated as a guaranteed future quote
- a sample price treated as a production price
- a higher price presented as proof of better quality
- a lower price presented as proof of better value
- supplier ranking based mainly on affiliate commission
A red flag is a reason to clarify the quote. It is not proof that the supplier is bad.

Buyer Decision: Which Quote Is Actually Cheaper?
Do not choose the offer with the lowest marketplace number. Choose the offer that remains economically attractive after the products are technically comparable and the commercial basis is normalized. A practical decision sequence is:
- Reject identity or documentation conflicts.
- Confirm the same usable grade / specification.
- Normalize price units and currency.
- Match quantity tier and MOQ.
- Calculate active-adjusted cost where analytically valid.
- Put quotes on the same Incoterm / delivery basis.
- Add freight, testing and qualification costs.
- Compare total order cash and lead time.
- Resolve missing fields through RFQ.
- Make the sourcing decision from the complete offer.
The lowest public price may win. It may also disappear after normalization. Before ordering, confirm that the destination still matches the Ectoin grade you require. Request a current quote, specification, lot-specific COA, MOQ, packaging, lead time and the agreed Incoterm before comparing effective landed cost.
This is a current sourcing entry, not a supplier ranking or permanent recommendation.
